Sam Issac - Sideways - Single Review
Album Review By Ian S. Russell

Sam Isaac (Bio):
"Indie Cottage Industry"
The Sam Isaac Show often resembles an "Indie Cottage Industry" -
friends make artwork, do recording, direct music videos and even carry
clipboards!

With influences including, Bright Eyes, The Spinto Band and and Ad
Harcourt twenty year old Sam grew up in the sleepy town of Malvern
(West Midlands) before later in 2005, moving to East London.

Sam went on to Self release 2 mini albums - both of which received
gleaming reviews and national radio play, April saw Sam releasing a split
10" with Luke Lighfield on Mannequin Record. The summer has seen
Sam touring the UK festival scene including: Wireless, Glastonbury and
Latitude.

A busy end of year is looming for Sam, with shows supporting the likes of
"Scouting For Girls" and "The Pigeon Detectives" (To be broad casted on
MTV2)

Sam's debut single "Sideways" is to be co-released by Big Scary Monster
Records & Alcopop Recordings as part of BSM's "Meet And Greet"
singles series. All copy's of this single will also include a password giving
Sam's fans access to a secret website, containing exclusive recordings,
videos and other "Sam Isaac" goodies.

TRACK 1 "Sideways"
Feel good indie! 3 great words to describe this track, I've never been a
huge fan of indie music, but Sam Isaac really makes me wonder why. This
track has a real "Kate Nash" feel to it, a jolly upbeat backing with light
pitched happy lyrics - with a heavy London accent works very well. At
times Sam's vocals are joined with faint backing vocals - this also works
very well.

Theres also a vague "Killers" sound to this track, and this is one of the
only artists in the "upbeat singer/songwirter indie" genre that i actually
like.

TRACK 2 "Cinematic Low"
As the title suggests, this track doesn't start so upbeat, with a great
acoustic guitar riff - accompanied by a violin. An electric guitar adds a
slight kick to it around 30 secs in, with Sams vocals picking up, again with
the heavy London accent and backing vocals. This is another great track
from Sam, a piano interlude add some more substance to the track. My
only negative points about this song is, the chorus does get slightly
repetitive, but this is compensated again by the good lyrics and the
backing Piano.

The EP Overall
I would really look out for Sam in the future, i love all aspects of his works,
it makes a nice change to hear meaningful, warm lyrics for once, and his
strong accent helps him stand out from the few decent artists in his genre.

Which is why Sam Isaac's "Sideways" gets a full 5/5 Scorpio Review!
